Great Works

Today, over at the mother ship, we told you a bit about the history of Hernes, the You Look Nice Today writers’ retreat. Countless great works will be written there, and we’re excited to offer residencies to writers of ever-higher caliber.

But we should not forget some of the wonderful works that have already been produced at Hernes. A brief list:

Halm Greenbread: The Do-Overs
Justice Brie: Who Am I Slash What / A Dialectic
Cresstin Keeper: Krishna Steals the Peanut
Robert Langdon: Awoke Slowly
Stoop Hass: Miracles of Near-Flight

The tragedy here is that, while these books will someday be considered the classics of a fallen age, they have proven too unpopular to keep in print (or even, in some cases, to print at all). It’s sad to think that these majestic works are, for all intents and purposes, lost.

The Fishstick, Jetlagged in Dubai version by Melissa Gira

Future white carnation nominee Melissa Gira dared to cross the streams with this stunning interpretation of the Fishstick…shot in Dubai!

I’m informed by Melissa’s people that she was not only excruciatingly jet-lagged, but that she had just suggested the idea of this particular airport terminal to a representative from the Dubai Advertising Board — literally — minutes before landing. Boom. Pants Attack. Airport. Done.

Regrettably, Melissa had to reapply her humiliating “Lady Doily” just 9 seconds after this piece ended. Trade-offs.

Thank you, Melissa. And Team YLNT hope you still have the strength to envision a pile of Ambien in the shape of the globe. Because, as you’ve learned, “They’ve Got It…in Dubai!®”

Goodbye Dubai | Smashing Telly

Bad news, guys.

Short of opening a Radio Shack in an Amish town, Dubai is the world’s worst business idea, and there isn’t even any oil. Imagine proposing to build Vegas in a place where sex and drugs and rock and roll are an anathema. This is effectively the proposition that created Dubai - it was a stupid idea before the crash, and now it is dangerous.
